SuzanJohnsonCookBioPicAn International Influencer, Business Owner, Communications Expert, Diplomat, and Faith Leader, Hon. Suzan Johnson Cook was the first female and African-American to hold the position of U.S. Ambassador for International Religious Freedom. Nominated by Secretary Hillary Clinton, and appointed by President Barack Obama, she was the principal advisor to the President of the United States and Secretary of State for religious freedom globally. Having all 199 countries in her portfolio, she integrated religious freedom into the foreign policy and national security discussions, and worked to empower women leaders around the world. She represented the United States in 28 countries and more than 100 diplomatic engagements, bringing faith leaders and women to the Religious Freedom table. Additionally, she has been the faith advisor to two U.S. Presidents, three cabinet secretaries, as well as political and celebrity leaders. She served as President Bill Clinton’s only faith advisor on the historic “President’s Initiative on Race”.

Often called upon to be a media commentator, guest lecturer, Visiting Fellow and panel moderator, she can be seen frequently on CNN, MSNBC, FOX and ABC TV. She served Harvard’s Divinity School as an Associate Dean, and Faculty member for three years, as a President’s Administrative Fellow. Her alma mater, Union theological Seminary, awarded her with the UNITAS and Trailblazing awards, as well as the Activist Scholar Fellowship for two years.

In it’s Centennial Year, Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., made her an honorary member and she’s a proud Soror of the Centennial 6 Line.

An ordained Baptist minister, she was a New York City pastor for 33 years, the first female President of the historic Hampton Ministers Conference, the largest gathering of Black clergy in the world.  As the first female Chaplain of the NYPD, where she served for 21 years, she was on the front lines of 9/11. She became famous for the standing room only “Lunch Hour of Power,” and "Wonderful Wall Street Wednesdays," mid-week services and seminars for the business community, where the New York Times described her as “Oprah and Billy Graham rolled into one.” Leader of Women on the Worldstage and the Pro Voice/Pro Voz movement for women of color, encouraging leaders to not only lean in at the table, but to get in to have a seat at the table.

Owner of Charisma Speakers, the only global professional speakers bureau and cross cultural communications firm owned by a Black woman, she is in demand as a motivational and keynote speaker, she has given more than 3,000 speeches around the globe. She plans and  provides annual life balance/launching Retreats for busy Professional women, and Unsung SHE-roes Banquets, to connect and celebrate female community and corporate leaders. She is a member of the USBC.

Mother of two adult sons, she recently won first prize with her short film “A Different Way", in the Dare to Overcome film competition.
