UNA-NCA understands a key pillar of promoting human rights is ending the discrimination racial and ethnic minorities face here in the United States and around the world. All UNA-NCA committees are committed to furthering the anti-racist work of the United Nations and building a world of equity and justice for all. Supporting DEI initiatives in the D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia region as well as within our own organization, is just one way our chapter is promoting racial justice at the local level.

A Conversation with Maryland State Senator Arthur Ellis
The United Nations Association of National Capital Area is launching a new policy series exploring the essential role cultural, ethnic and gender diversity play in advancing economic development and community prosperity. Global growth in highly technical STEM fields, including in medicine, infrastructure and technology creates extraordinary potential for countries’ and communities’ well-being. However, women and people of color are vastly underrepresented in science and technology classes, specialized technical job placements, and in leadership roles.
This policy series highlights leaders in policy, as well as experts in the science, math and technology sector to discuss how we can advance more equitable representation in STEM fields. Listeners will have the opportunity to hear from experts about their careers, about the challenges and successes in promoting equity in the workplace, and how we all can encourage young people to take STEM classes and enter STEM fields.
