Program Assistants Needed


UNA-NCA’s Program Assistant Internship is open to all professionals, undergraduate, and graduate university students pursuing a course of study or practical experience in international and public policy, advocacy, communications, and grassroots organizing. UNA-NCA Program Assistants help implement a variety of programs designed to build an educated citizenry and inspire action in support of the United Nations.

Competitive candidates should possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write, edit, and proof read own work and the work of others. The ability to multitask and problem solve in a fluctuating environment is essential. Innovation, creative thinking, and attention to detail are strongly desired. Program Assistants should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to professionally represent the organization with members and the general public. Basic computer knowledge is required, strong computer skills preferred.

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Internships will last at minimum one semester; six month positions are encouraged. All internship positions are unpaid. A fixed stipend is provided to interns to help offset daily transportation costs.

UNA-NCA places Program Assistants with experience in the following area groups:

Membership Development Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Strategize ways to recruit and retain members through events and programs;

· Increase prospective member outreach;

· Regularly contact new and current members to determine ways to increase active involvement in the organization;

· Represent Association at various events;

· Boost involvement of Young Professionals in events and committees;

· Work with partner organizations to ensure UNA visibility at events.

 

Communications and Media Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Coordinate, edit, and assist with writing of newsletters and annual reports;

· Experience with InDesign or other layout applications preferred;

· Create and edit the e-newsletter;

· Assist in website critique and redesign, experience with Joomla or similar website management applications preferred;

· Prepare press releases and other promotional materials;

· Assist with coverage of UNA-NCA and other UN-related events in the Washington area for possible publication on the website or UNA-NCA newsletter;

· Promote the Association and events to the community, academic institutions, and media.

 

Outreach Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Organize UNA-NCA’s events, meetings and other possible needs on a constant basis;

· Coordinate logistics for speakers, guests, location, budget, décor, and menus of event planning on a monthly basis;

· Prepare RSVP lists and Guest lists for events and keep track of attendance;

· Contact people for event planning;

· Organize various events simultaneously;

· Coordinate fundraisers;

· Assist with creation of flyers, special event notices, tickets, etc;

· Initiate new events;

· Expand inter-committee communication.

 

Fundraising & Finances Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Assist the coordination of UNA-NCA’s fundraising activities (ranging from donor solicitation and tracking to donor stewardship);

· Support financial reporting activities (including budgeting, grant-tracking and working with QuickBooks financial database software);

· Assist UNA-NCA’s grant-writing activities including grants research, proposal development and coordination of the UNA-NCA Grant Writers team;

· Research and cultivate relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.

 

IT & Administration Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Work with multiple software environments including Microsoft Office, database programs HTML and other website applications, publications software, and Microsoft Exchange Server;

· Train staff and UNA-NCA leadership on use of new technology;

· Troubleshoot diverse computer and technology challenges across office;

· Assess and implement new technology, equipment, and procedures to improve organization's effectiveness.

 

Assistant to the Executive Director Seeking interns starting August 2010!

· Support Executive Director in preparation for meetings, special events, and fundraising;

· Contribute to the design of new fundraising programs; and

· Strong event planning skills and experience preferred.

 

Candidates should be able to commit to a minimum of approximately 30 hours (four days) per week for at least a full academic semester. Non U.S.citizens must possess a valid US Visa prior to applying to the internship program (Please note that B-1and B-2 class business/tourist visas are not eligible).
