Human Rights “All human beings are born with equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms.” (UN Declaration of Human Rights, 1948) This is an important ideal our world is still striving to live up to.

UNA-NCA focuses on that value, lifting up examples in the community, recognizing marginalized and meaningful voices on the issues, and sharing inspiring stories to ensure we are all free.

Sustainable Development Our human population has expanded in ways that cities were never designed for. Alongside changing demographics and a critical dialogue around inclusion, diversity, and equity, we have a unique opportunity to develop in sustainable ways.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) is focused on building more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities, and UNA-NCA is translating that to the DMV area.

International Law The power of the United Nations is in its charter and its members to uphold the rule of law, and ensure that member states are acting in accordance with the values set forth to protect what we hold most sacred—people, the planet, and freedom.

Through courts and tribunals as well as treaties and laws, a complex system of international law stands guard for all of us. UNA-NCA convenes conversations around these issues.
