As an advocate for a strong and equitable engagement of the United States in the United Nations, we count on you within the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area. Your generosity allows us to grow strong support across Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights we wish to raise $75,000 throughout the year. A group of committed supporters has offered to match increased gifts from UNA-NCA supporters, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. This will apply to your donation. Pledges made by June 30th are highly encouraged, as it helps UNA-NCA plan for the remainder of the year.
Since the start of 2023, UNA-NCA has reached across our region to:
- 200 middle and high school students from DMV schools attended the Global Classrooms DC (GCDC) Winter Model UN Training Conference at the School of International Service at American University, and over 500 students and educators participated in the Spring GCDC Model UN Conference at the U.S. Department of State;
- 34 masters’ and doctoral students from 9 area universities, who engaged in the semester-long Graduate Fellows Program that provides a UN lens to global issues along with mentoring and career development opportunities;
- Students and young adults who engaged in the Young Professionals’ Career Dinners with in-depth discussions on forging career paths;
- The Global Goals at Home program which continues to gather and analyze data with 213 users who downloaded the metadata and engage over 50 partners of which over 60% are direct service providers;
- Members and friends of our Advisory Council who convened to discuss strategies for strengthening the UN through education and advocacy.
UNA-NCA, with partner organizations, successfully advocated with the DC Council for the passage and funding of the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Act, an intersectional policy initiative based on the UN’s CEDAW human rights treaty. Our Advocacy Committee hosted a side event during the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) on strategies for ending online violence against women.
Impactful relationships and programs are being developed by leaders and members of the African Affairs, Human Rights, International Law, Peace & Security, and Sustainable Development Committees. Great programming is coming in the fall, including UN Day in October and the Human Rights Awards in December.
Support – it starts with each of us – and our belief in the United Nations and UNA-NCA as the channel for learning and advocacy. We build meaningful relationships, grounded in valuing the UN, through partnerships and collaborations. As a uniquely positioned chapter of the UN Association, we benefit from partnerships with UN and government agencies, NGOs, universities, and think tanks. We strengthen the United Nations by mobilizing our communities and our nation. We see the common good that benefits all. We count on you!
