Youth Interns will gain experience and develop skills necessary for working in a professional environment, refine research and writing skills, and receive exposure to a variety of communications, membership, events, development, and administrative tasks. This position is ideal for high school students who are passionate about international issues and/or education and driven, hardworking students and are looking to develop life skills outside of the classroom.

Job Duties

  • Work remotely (or outside the office) with the Global Classrooms DC team to accomplish monthly goals, and have frequent communication to keep up-to-date
  • Write and edit our monthly newsletter that keeps our network of educators in DC, Maryland, and Virginia engaged and informed on international issues
  • Develop creative and interesting posts on social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter
  • Provide staff support and attend various UNA-NCA and GCDC events, including the Annual Spring Conference at the U.S. Department of State and the Pan American Health Organization, and possible partnership events

Minimum Skills Required

  • Must be a high school student in DC, Maryland, or Virginia enrolled in public school, public charter school, private school, or home-schooled education
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service skills, especially via phone and email
  • Strong research skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a "can-do" attitude
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at once
  • Strong interest in international affairs, political science, international relations, related field or Model United Nations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to use social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube) for communication and promotion
