The United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) is accepting applications for a part-time Development Program Assistant/Intern to support our Growth Initiatives team. This unpaid internship opportunity is open to current undergraduate or graduate students, as well as recent graduates interested in nonprofit fundraising, international affairs, and public diplomacy.
Development Program Assistant/Intern Position Overview
20–32 hours/week
The Development Program Assistant/Intern will gain practical, hands-on experience in nonprofit development while working closely with UNA-NCA’s Development Associate and President. PAs/Interns become an integral part of a mission-driven team and contribute directly to fundraising efforts that support UNA-NCA’s programs and outreach. This role offers meaningful exposure to grant writing, donor relations, strategic communications, and organizational development—ideal for candidates interested in nonprofit management, international relations, or fundraising careers. Candidates based in the Washington, DC area are preferred.
Position Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development Support- Assist with drafting grant proposals, donor solicitations, emails, and acknowledgment letters
- Conduct prospect research and help prepare briefing materials for leadership
- Support management of donor databases, prospect pipelines, and sponsorship benefits
- Assist with outreach to individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners
- Help create fundraising reports and track development metrics
- Support planning and execution of donor appreciation and engagement events
- Contribute to fundraising content for newsletters, social media, website, and reports
- Assist with storytelling and impact messaging for development materials
- Join development and committee meetings and prepare clear, action-oriented minutes
- Support internal tracking systems, timelines, and meeting agendas
- Assist with Board-related administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications
Essential- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Interest in nonprofit work, fundraising, and UN-related or foreign policy issues
- Comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a team
- Proficient in or willing to learn Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Preferred
- Prior nonprofit, fundraising, or administrative experience
- Familiarity with donor databases
- Experience with event coordination or stakeholder outreach
- Hands-on experience with grants, donor relations, and nonprofit strategy
