Catherine Kannam leads global programs in fragile and politically sensitive environments, advancing governance, stabilization, and women’s empowerment in partnership with local communities. Previously, as Chemonics International’s first Chief Operating Officer, she led enterprise transformation and supported global teams across HR, Legal, Compliance, IT, and ESG. She worked to strengthen organizational culture, align strategy and execution, and build systems that enable inclusive, community‑rooted impact.
As Senior Vice President for Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Afghanistan, Catherine guided strategy, partnerships, and program delivery across diverse contexts, ensuring effective coordination among technical, operational, and business development teams. She also oversaw the organization’s Peace, Stability & Transition and Gender Equality & Social Inclusion practices, shaping approaches to complex political and development challenges.
Catherine began her career working directly in India on governance and community‑driven development. She holds an MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a BA from Wesleyan University.
