The Advisory Council (AC) Chair’s primary roles and responsibilities are to foster and build the strength of the AC by identifying, reviewing and recruiting experienced leaders in the National Capital Area from the fields of activity relevant to the UNA-NCA mission. These include the areas of diplomacy, international affairs, international development, peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance and human rights. The Chair is expected to reach out to find and encourage participation in the AC from leaders in academia, government, NGOs and CSOs, business, philanthropic institutions, and international organizations.

The Vice President for Communications is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors who is responsible for the overall vision and direction of UNA-NCA’s communications efforts. Day-to-day implementation of the vision and direction is the responsibility of the UNA-NCA Executive Director and staff, in consultation with the President and members of the Communications Committee.

The Vice Chair for Development (VPD) is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors who is responsible for the overall vision and direction of UNA-NCA’s resource development efforts. Day-to-day implementation of the vision and direction is the responsibility of the UNA-NCA Executive Director and staff, in consultation with the President, VPD, and members of the Development Committee.

The Treasurer or designee shall place all funds of UNA-NCA in a banking institution, mutual fund, or brokerage firm regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The account shall be in the name of UNA-NCA. Withdrawal of such funds shall be made only by check. Except as provided below, checks shall be signed by two of the following: Chair of the Board, Treasurer, Chair of the Finance Committee, and the President of UNA-NCA, all of whom shall be bonded. In addition, any other person with responsibility for the financial affairs of UNA-NCA shall be bonded. The President may issue the following without obtaining an additional signature: checks for rent and other operational expenses consistent with the amount in the budget authorized by the Board, and other checks for programs and projects authorized by the Board up to $1,500. The President may also, by himself or herself, transfer funds between UNA-NCA accounts, duly established by any two of the qualified individuals noted above.
The Vice Chair for Membership & Volunteer Engagement is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors who is responsible for UNA-NCA’s membership recruitment and engagement strategies. Day-to-day implementation of such strategies are the responsibility of the UNA-NCA Executive Director and staff, in consultation with the President and members of the Membership Committee.

The VC, Young Professionals works with the President, Board of Directors, Committees of the Board and senior staff to engage young professionals in the execution of UNA-NCA’s strategic priorities.

Young Professionals (YP) is a program of UNA-NCA that seeks to engage young professionals in discussions of international affairs and emphasizes the importance of multilateral cooperation and the UN. While we appreciate supporters of all ages, YP members are typically between the ages of 21-40 and are a diverse group of individuals from the fields of business, law, government, nonprofit, the arts, and philanthropy. YP provides opportunities to interact with like-minded individuals and gives young professionals a unique forum in which to learn more about current international issues, the UN, and the work of UNA-NCA.

This position works closely with the President, Board of Directors, Committees of the Board and senior staff to set overall organizational policies and priorities. Works with senior volunteers to develop long-term goals, policies and strategies to ensure successful operations, and analyzes the implications of proposed actions and decisions by individual areas on the whole of the organization.

As per the UNA-NCA By-laws, the VP and Secretary serves all notices required by the handbook. He/she records accurate minutes of all meetings of the Chapter, which should include election results and assignments to specific duties; works with the president and the staff to prepare UNA-NCA’s annual report; and performs all the customary duties of a secretary.
The primary purpose of the Student Representative(s) is to liaise with students from local universities in the National Capital Area jurisdiction – DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The Representative(s) will be encouraged to form a committee with the goal of promoting the work of the United Nations, collaborating with other UNA-NCA committees and programs, encouraging student membership, and working in partnership with student clubs and UNA-USA chapter campuses.

This position works with the President, Board of Directors, Committees of the Board, and Senior Staff to execute UNA-NCA Programming, and establish programming standards, policies, and priorities for the organization, and outreach to partners. Work with executive committee, board, senior staff, and volunteers to determine goals for organization programming and define best practices. Promote the organization’s brand and ensure that all programming achieves the mission and goals of UNA-NCA.
