The light for democracy and human rights was dimmed yesterday. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, the United Nations Association of the USA and its chapters across the country mourned the loss of the first female Secretary of State, Madeline Albright on March 23, 2022 at age 84.

During her long career, Secretary Albright distinguished herself by her unapologetic assertion of U.S. power for the purpose of keeping the peace as well as several significant diplomatic breakthroughs. She advanced our country’s highest ideals of freedom, democracy, and human dignity.

Though the light may have been dimmed in that moment, it is up to us to make it burn brighter than ever. In remembrance of Secretary Albright and for all women around the world, UNA-USA will continue her legacy. Her work, leadership, and wisdom will continue to guide and empower generations to come.
