Lydia Daniels
Tyler Scrimager is a dedicated and enthusiastic foreign policy professional with over five years of experience in peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and program management, with a focus on counterterrorism, energy and climate security, and Middle East policy. He brings a deep passion for promoting international cooperation to achieve global security and resolve violent conflict abroad.

Tyler most recently served in the MENA Center at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where he contributed to projects to mitigate the resurgence of ISIS, facilitate returns and reintegration from al-Hol Camp in Syria, protect ethnic and religious minorities in Iraq, advance women’s rights in the Kurdistan Region, prevent water insecurity-related violence, and foster peaceful outcomes in Yemen. He helped conduct an array of dialogue sessions, capacity-building exercises, and trainings to U.S., foreign government, and civil society actors in the Middle East, and led the coordination of events, roundtables, and conferences that hosted numerous ministers, ambassadors, and high-level USG and UN officials.

Prior to USIP, Tyler worked in the private sector in the energy industry, interned for non-profits conducting research and statistical analysis, and served as an AmeriCorps volunteer helping refugees and asylees in Eastern Iowa.

Tyler holds an MA in International Affairs from the School of International Service at American University, where he completed his capstone paper titled “Counterproductive Responses to Terrorism” on the U.S. response to al-Qaeda and ISIS. He also holds a BA in International Relations and Linguistics from the University of Iowa.

As Co-Chair of the Peace and Security Committee for the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA), he continues the mission of peacebuilding, enabling both local and international efforts to advance peace and security around the world.
